Celtic Melodies, World Flavours, Irresistible Grooves

Celtech was started in August 2008 by brothers Sonny and Ed Davidson. Having previously enjoyed working together and touring internationally in The Resonators and Avalon Roots they decided they would like to start something new together and Celtech is the result. They spent the best part of a year recording, arranging tracks together and developing the project. Sonny has spent years immersed in Celtic music and Ed has explored the genres of Electronica, Drum and Bass and Funk. The music of Celtech has evolved from the process offusing these different musical elements along with aspects of world music, which have also been a strong influence. The Davidson brothers form the rhythm section of the band with Ed on Drums and Sonny on bass. Both started their musical careers as drummers and this gives the band a firm rhythmical foundation on which to build.

During the spring of 2009 Daygan Robinson (mandolin) - with whom Sonny had previously played in celebrated South West Folk fusion band Dragonsfly - became interested in working with them. He soon became a fully fledged member of the band and has ended up contributing a track to the new album.

The brothers had also been talking with Jonathan Shorland (Woodwind and Pipes) about doing something together since not long after the demise of Primaeval, a band playing Celtic music which they had all played in together. He was promptly invited to join the band and has brought with him a wealth of experince having toured internationally with Welsh band Fern Hill as well as playing with many other Celtic outfits over the years. Jonathan also recommended Sille Ilves (Fiddle, Hurdy Gurdy, Vocals) of Estonian/Welsh duo Sild.On being approached Sille also expressed an interest. Having recently finished a string of dates with Jackie Oates, she was available to join.

Finally Torbz (Synths and guitar) and Marianne Forelius (Flute and Clarinet) of The Awakening came in to complete the lineup adding their considerable instrumental capabilities to the mix as well as crucial technical and website building know how on the part of Torbz.

More recording followed with each of the new members making contributions to an ever evolving sound. The recording was wrapped up at the beginning of August and was mastered by Toby Marks (aka Banco De Gaia) in October. Members of the band gave interviews on BBC Radio Somerset, Glastonbury FM and Phonic Fm in Exeter and their tracks from their debut album were played on Glastonbury Radio.net. They played their debut gig at The Assembly Rooms In Glastonbury on Fri 29th of Jan which was sold out.
